Treatment

Our group have decided to name our horror film The Summoning. The main plot revolves around a group of secondary school pupils who summon a ghost using an Ouija board. Set on the eve of Halloween in their deserted school (which is rumoured to be haunted), the group hear voices that seem to be coming from the walls. At first they do not choose to take the voices seriously and amuse one and other by pretending to be ghosts or monsters. However, one of the characters named Sam takes it all a lot more seriously. Sam is the ‘geeky, horror film lover’ and the focal character in the film. She is seen as an outsider within the group of friends as they do not agree with her beliefs in magical and supernatural forces. She is a horror film ‘fanatic’ as well as a keen video producer and so film’s the night’s events on her handheld camera. Although Sam believes the voices could be some kind of summoning from a spirit she is not scared, instead she is very excited at the prospect of witnessing a spirit and is curious about what her and her friends may find.

The film will begin with the group of friends spending their Friday afternoon Media lesson to discuss their plans for the night of Halloween. They decide to begin by hiding from teachers at the end of school so that they are eventually left late after hours, locked in, and unsupervised. They finally manage to do this and end up in the sports gym where they sit around drinking and smoking. Sam, being a lover of all things horror, has a Ouija board in her backpack and asks the others if they want to play it in the gym, where it is rumoured long ago a girl hung herself from the weights machine. The group are sceptical and think of it as a joke but agree to go ahead with it anyway. However, it comes as no surprise to all but Sam that nothing happens. They then decide to continue hanging around the school and have their own private party in one of the classrooms. It is only when they start to hear noises they realise they are not on the school premises alone, but the students still don't believe that it could be a ghost, so they blame it on Sam just playing tricks on them. The students find that they keep losing members of their group and eventually realise that one by one, they are each being hunted down and tortured. They try to escape their horrific fate but are all inevitably captured and graphically killed. Apart from Sam who is the only character that originally believed in the ghost.
