Cast
Our cast follows the main conventions of cast in horror films in particular our main character "Sam". "Sam" (played by Naima) she is virginal, geek who is always well behaved compared to her friends and she also has a unisex name, this is found in most horror films as it conforms to the final girl theory much like the character "Sidney" in the film Scream. "Ava" is the opposite to "Sam's" character as she is very promiscuous and overtly sexy and flirty, in horror movies the girl that is seen to be ‘slutty' is usually the first to die, showing that sex=death which is often an idea shown in horror. Their are then the two characters "Jared" Ava's Boyfriend and "Michelle" a friend of "Ava" and "Sam's", we chose for the majority of our characters to be female because our research showed that these were characters people wanted to see in horror. We also chose to use a very small cast as we felt it would be easier to explain the storyline within the trailer and horror is usually scarier with a smaller number of characters.
Costume
Sam's costume will be much more conservative and slightly “nerdy” as this fits the profile of character. Ava's costume will be much more provocative and revealing as her character is supposed to shown as “slutty”, from these clothes that “Ava” is wearing the audience will think that the character is most likely to be sexually active. The rest of the class will be wearing modern and somewhat fashionable clothing as this is likely to be what the viewer will wear, making them more able to relate to the characters.
Props
The main prop we will be using is the handheld camera, as it is essential for this to be shown because the audience need to know why their is several handheld shots in the trailer. By "Sam" carrying the camera through out it makes it more realistic that she is filming the action. For our most important scene (Ouija Board Scene) we use a home-made ouija board, this is similar to what people would make them, making it realistic as it is likely equipment for teenagers to use when doing a seance. We also use candles to create a scary, spiritual atmosphere, this is because candles are often closely linked to religion. To show that the group are doing things that may be seen as morally wrong for teenagers to be doing we use alcohol in the second and third scene and then cigarettes in scene 4 of Eva alone.
